The heart of the matter

Do you ever just have a really bad day where you are cross with everyone in your family for leaving their shoes out, not rinsing their dishes, or making messes and not cleaning up after themselves?

There are some days where I can clean up after everyone and have a good attitude about it, but on other days it just makes me feel cranky and like a maid to be quite honest. I think as long as I maintain the house in a clean condition, it should be easy for everyone else to help keep it that way. OK, so I'm living in La-La land a bit, but it does start to wear on you after a while.

Last night I was having a nice little pity party for myself. I was feeling under appreciated and very tired. I feel like all I do all day is pick up one mess after another. Don't get me wrong, I love taking care of my family. That's how I show my love for them. When I'm cooking a good dinner, I'm saying: "here's a little bit of my love on a plate". When I'm doing laundry and folding it and putting it away, I'm saying: "here's some nice clean clothes for you because I care". When I'm sweeping and vacuuming it's so my family can have a comfortable clean home.

But every once in a while, like last night, I just want to throw in the towel and go on strike. Being a mom is a thankless job for the most part. You don't have anyone patting you on the back and telling you good work, yet we love our families so much we do it day in and day out regardless.

So after going to bed bitter, and getting a horrible nights sleep I'm trying to start fresh today and have a better attitude.

"Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes."

Yes, I think as mothers we all have days like that when we feel like we are just beating our heads upside a brick wall. But isn't it a beautiful thing that tomorrow is always a new day? I love that!

Thanks for sharing that quote. I agree. Attitude is everything.

it never ceases to amaze me how i can go to bed with a relatively clean house and after the morning rush i'm back to square one. i think we will all sleep in our clothes on top of our made beds from here on out. cleaning the same things every day sucks but if we don't do it it won't get done, and a messy house is un unhappy house. don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with taking a little time off from it too!(as long as your prepared to work double time afterwards!:)

I've been a grump all week Sarah. I haven't gotten anything done with Porter being so sick. Seriously, I've held him for 4 days! UGH!!! I know how you are feeling, unappreciated and all! I swear I'm the only one in the house that knows how to the dishes. This is so true about attitude. Thanks for the quote. Hope your day is better today than yesterday!

Here Here! I feel like I am constantly telling my family... "I can't do everything all by myself around here!"

It takes everyone's effort to maintain a household, but getting everyone's effort is not easy.

Thanks for the reminder about attitude.

That was a great reminder. I have heard over and over that we are the heart of the home. And I have witnessed first hand over and over how true that is. But sometimes, we have a slight heart attack and it gets beating faster than we can handle and its overworked. You may seem unappreciated now, but in the end, you will be so appreciated. Your a good mother for realizing that we are in charge of the attitude factor. Thanks Sarah
