Lots to tell, but not right now
I have so many things I should be blogging about. New pictures to post, exciting things that happened over the weekend, funny things to share. But right now I am just so very tired. So many other things have been sucking up my time lately I just have not felt the urge to sit down and regularly post like I usually do. And I just can't seem to shake this exhaustion that's been following me around like a new puppy. It's there everyday and though I get a few spurts of get up and go here and there, I am mostly just so very tired. This is not normal for me. Yes, I get the occasional "I've been up with babies and kids or just couldn't sleep at night" type of tiredness, but this feels heavy and hard to shake. I feel like I've just been in a fog the last week or so.
I'm hoping that it's just the crazy whirlwind we've been wrapped up in the last few weeks at a constant sprinting pace that is catching up to me and this good slow week can work some magic on me. I know I overdid it working in the yard yesterday, but it felt good to get a lot accomplished while I could. I stayed home from Kendle's game tonight with the twins and now have lots of mom guilt about that. I just could not summon up the energy to go and wrestle the twins around during the game. I know it's fine since Riley and Morgan are there, but I just hate missing things like that. I'm hoping a hot soak in the tub tonight and an early night's sleep can give me a little pick me up for tomorrow. Mom's don't get to take time off and I know my family needs me back at 100%. Summer is coming and there's lots of fun in store.

Today started out dark, dreary, and rainy. But now that the sun has come out to shine, I'm hoping that will be a good omen for the rest of the day. I've been dealing with sick cranky kids around here and it's good to see those golden rays shining through my window. Cooper started being really fussy and tired last night during dinner and just wanted to get down out of his high chair and be rocked and held. That right there is always a dead giveaway that something is wrong because he is not a cuddler and does not ever sit still. After a few minutes of rocking he was passed out. He and Kale both have some big teeth coming through on both sides of their mouth right now and it's been quite the miserable week or so for them and me, as I have not been feeling too great myself. I think we are all restless and ready for some warm spring weather. We had a good stretch going there for a while though of nobody getting sick, so that was pleasant while it lasted.
Riley stopped at the Nike outlet on his way to Seattle last weekend and got me some new workout gear. He picked out some great stuff that is super comfortable. Good job on that Riley. He also discovered they now have an Under Armour outlet there as well. Now we are REALLY in big trouble. I don't think our family will ever have a shortage of athletic clothing if Riley has anything to say about it. Good thing a lot of Kendle's stuff can be passed down to Morgan and then to the twins. At least that's how we justify it. Sorry Kendle, no pink soccer cleats for you, have to get the black ones so your brothers can wear them too. HA! Riley was pretty bummed out that his club team had their first league loss in two years. Hopefully they can redeem themselves at their game this weekend. Southridge also has their first two games of the season on Friday and Saturday. Busy weekend for sure.
I think I am going to make some Local Boyz crock pot chicken for dinner with rice.
It always makes the house smell good like you are walking into a restaurant. I've been trying to think of lighter and healthier dinners to make that my family will still all enjoy. To be honest, they are not big veggie eaters so it can be a challenge. I've been trying to just lighten up a lot of our family favorites and make them lower-fat and lower-sugar. So far, not too many complaints but there are definitely some recipes that are better left how they are. I know I've mentioned this website before, but I love Gina's Skinny Recipes at http://www.skinnytaste.com/. Every recipe I've tried is really good and I like that there's lots of flavor and also yummy desserts. Got to have some sweets!
Well, I think that's enough rambling for the morning.
**Here is the recipe for Local Boyz chicken:
Recipe #1 - The easy version
3 or 4 chicken breasts
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup soy sauce
1 Tbsp. minced garlic
4 tsp. ground ginger or 1/2 tsp. fresh grated ginger
Place chicken in crockpot. Mix remaining ingredients all together and pour over the top of chicken. Cook in crockpot for 8 hours on low. To eat, shred or chunk up and serve with hot white sticky rice.
(I also found this other knock off recipe that is really good)
Recipe #2 - Slow Cooker Shoyu Chicken

Good: Ran my 3.1 miles in 27:15 today.
Not Good: My second toe on my right foot (mainly the toenail that needs to fall off) is still hurting me.
Good: Made giant snickerdoodles for Kendle's Activity Day group this afternoon
Not Good: No leftovers (or maybe that is good)
Good: Morgan has kept himself totally entertained today
Not Good: Unfortunately that means there are Lego's and blocks everywhere.
Good: The Valentine's Candy is almost gone
Not Good: All of the good candy is gone.
Good: Despicable Me - very cute movie
Not Good: Having it on what seems to be constant repeat.
Good: Tax Returns
Not Good: Having to use the returns for really boring practical stuff. Boo!
Good: Coaching free 3 day weekend for Riley
Not Good: LOTS to do in that amount of time.
Good: Stack of good books waiting to be read
Not Good: Not enough hours in the day
Good: Painted fingernails
Not Good: Chipped polish
Good: Glimpses of sunshine and spring colors
Not Good: Drab winter days
Taking the good with the not so good is an essential part of life. Learning how to do it well is a continual process.

Good Morning?
Have you ever wondered what it's like to have a husband who coaches soccer and is gone overnight sometimes while you are up and down during the wee hours with twins who decide they want to party instead of sleep?
Well, I'll just put your curiosity to rest. It's not fun. Actually, it's probably one of the most hard and frustrating things ever to be by yourself in situations like that.
Let me just say I'm drinking a Mountain Dew on the way to 8:45 swim lessons and not feeling one bit guilty about it.
Not. One. Bit.
If a nap in any way, shape, or form presents itself today I am wrapping my arms around it and calling it my new best friend.

Keeping It Real At the Moment
Wish I could say I had some great things to write about being a mom with Mother's day approaching, but very little comes to mind at the moment. It's been a rough couple of weeks. Parenting has been down right hard lately and I'm exhausted. I think there was a moment in the shower this morning that I almost fell asleep, but thanks to Kale screaming at me from his walker that was squashed. Nothing is worse than all of your children feeling moody and grumpy and you're feeling down right grumpy right along with them. I hope they understand that as a mom I'm far from perfect, but I still try really hard every day to do the best I can. I know there are good days ahead, it's just that right now there are more hard days than easy days and so that is my hill to climb. {This too shall pass.} It's not that I want these babies and children to hurry and grow up and I can be done with these precious child rearing years; quite the opposite. I just wish that the exhaustion, crankiness, and the overwhelmingness could go live somewhere else for a while or better yet leave forever. I am not a whiny person, in fact it really bothers me to hear people who constantly complain - so now I'm even annoying myself. I draw comfort from the fact that I know my Heavenly Father would not have entrusted me with these children and this situation if he did not think me strong enough and capable enough to see it through. The only positive that comes from feeling defeated, is the strengthened resolve and determination it gives me to have a victory, even if it's just a small fleeting one.

Today I'm Dreaming Of................
March 23, 2010
Tuesday Morning

*Got my hair cut yesterday and it feels good. Took a little length off, did a little bit of layering, and some bangs. I ended up going with the majority of the votes. I love how much better my hair looks in a ponytail when it's a little shorter. (Because it's in a ponytail almost every day of the week.)
*I am so sore from pulling weeds yesterday. My hamstrings are screaming this morning. I had to work in little increments of time between the twins napping. Lots of yard work to catch up on in the next few weeks.
*My little cherry blossom tree is blooming and beautiful and my lame lilac bush is sprouting blooms for the first time ever. Come on little lilac bush, I'm pulling for you that this will be your year.
*We have Kendle's parent/teacher conferences this afternoon. It's always interesting to hear what's been going on with her and look at some of the work she's been doing. There is almost always something that makes us laugh.
*Morgan has been staying with my parents since Sunday night and my mom will be bringing him home this afternoon. The house has been so much quieter, but a little less joyful without him. Kendle said she doesn't miss him racing around on his trike in the kitchen in the mornings, but I secretly think she does.
*I have been in a fog of sleepiness the last few days. Just when I think the twins are sleeping good at night, they prove me wrong. If we don't keep them up until at least ten o'clock at night they almost always wake up. But let's face it, I can barely keep my eyes open until nine o'clock most evenings. I'm not sure what's worse at this point - torturing myself by staying up later than I think my body can handle or putting the babies to sleep earlier and going to bed myself only to be woken up two hours later. I really wish Kale would stop rolling over and waking himself up.
*I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never, ever, ever, be done doing laundry. It's an impossible feat so I'm not even going to worry about it anymore. I don't foresee a time in the near future when my family will only wear one outfit a day.
*Looking forward to the end of this school week and the start of spring break!

Random Thoughts
*I can't believe the babes are 9 weeks now. They are getting so big and getting some nice fat little chubby legs. Can't wait to find out how much they weigh and have grown at their check up this week. I am thrilled that they are now smiling and cooing because it makes them even more adorable if that is possible. They bring laughs and happiness to everyone in our home. If I had to describe in one word how it feels to have their chubby little cheeks nestled into my neck while I rock them it would be - scrumptious (x's two)!
*They are now almost routinely waking up together, and I often times find myself feeding, bathing, rocking, dressing, and changing both of them at the same time. Not sure if that is a good thing or not at this point, but I will say it takes a lot of coordination. It does give me quite a sense of accomplishment though if I am able to peacefully lay them both down for a nap and have a few hours to get things done. I need to take some more pictures and post them soon as they are growing and changing so much.
*The kids and I have been a bit at odds lately. I've been frustrated with the way things have been going, how they've been acting, and my temper has been pretty short. I know they are feeling the pull of my time needing to be spent more with the baby boys and the mom guilt I feel about that eats me up sometimes. Many a night, I've laid in bed mulling over the day and wondering if I did my best with the time I had. I've been trying really hard to do a little something with each of them during the day, but sometimes I have to admit that after getting the babies to sleep I just want to sit and enjoy the quiet and not do anything else. I can see the effect it is having on Kendle and Morgan, and when people say that children adjust to not having enough time with their mother (or both parents for that matter)- that is simply not true. All kids need that love and attention no matter how old they are. I'm thankful for friends and family who have saved me time and again with a play date or some fun time away to make them feel special and give them something to do.
*I have to say that as much as Kendle and Morgan fight sometimes, they know how to band together too. Last night after trying to convince me that they didn't want to go to bed, I went in to check on them and found them both up on Kendle's top bunk sound asleep. They were all curled up under the blankets and slept that way the whole night. I wish they could get along like that all of the time because they have so much fun together when they do.
*I'm loving this sunshine we're having today. I know it's still January, but I can't wait for some nice spring weather to get out and take walks in. I'm excited to get more of a routine down and get the kids out for some fresh air every day. Kendle is going to try playing softball this year (after playing two years of tee ball) and I'm itching to get our gloves out and play some catch. This sunny weather just makes me want to get a whole list of projects done and wash my dirty windows, but that will have to wait a while.
*I'm thankful every day for all of the blessings we have. Even just the little every day things that make life more pleasant. We've had some interesting things happen lately and I know our Heavenly Father is watching over us.
*I've had a chance to catch up on some reading and have really enjoyed some of my latest books. I'll try and write some reviews about them soon. My day seems so much more bearable when I have a good book waiting for me. My mind needs an escape at the end of the day.
That's all for now!

So Glad It's Friday

I'm happy today because:
*I got some decent sleep last night.
*Morgan has slept in his big boy bed two nights in a row + a nap in it yesterday.
*My parents are taking Kendle with them to my nephew's baptism in Coquille, OR and she will get some much needed one on one time, not to mention lots of cousin time. She is so excited and has been counting down for weeks.
*I will miss Kendle being gone, but the house will be a little (a lot) quieter this weekend.
*I've been working hard all week and today minus a little bit of laundry, I am going to relax and have fun.
*On that same note, take out or going to dinner somewhere is on the menu for tonight, along with renting some movies.
*Going to Yoke's this morning to stock up on some canned goods. Won't have to buy those again for a long time which I like. I hate loading up my shopping cart with heavy cans when I'm grocery shopping.
*Don't have to worry about packing lunches, gathering homework, fixing hair, or early breakfast's till Monday.
Have a fun Friday!!!

What's Making My Head Spin Today....
*Talked to my doctor on Monday about birth plans, looks like I'll be getting induced in three or four weeks. I'm freaking out to have an actual deadline. Preparing myself for a possible c-section.
*Large to-do list that grows every day. Shouldn't it be shrinking?
*Have official baby names picked out, now just having "friendly" debates with Riley on how to spell them. I need to know though so I can finish up some projects I've been working on. I feel like we should have had this worked out months ago. This has definitely been the procrastination pregnancy.
*Morgan not adjusting to the bunk beds, getting up too early with Kendle, and being over all cranky. He's over the flu, but now has runny nose and a cough. I'm ready for him to be back to his happy self.
*So frustrated when helping Kendle with her homework. Poor girl has to draw out pictures for math that is so simple to her, and bring home books to read that are too easy. I feel for her and am at a loss for how I can help her have a better school experience. I see her losing her spark.
*Trying to figure out where to put the 18 boxes of cereal I bought on sale this week.
*Wondering if my house is really cluttered, or if it's my super-sensitive nesting instincts kicking into over drive.
*Watching my 2 year old plug his portable radio into the computer to charge, and working the remote like a pro. Wondering why the concept of potty training is so hard to grasp then? :)
*After getting zero sleep last night, I'm not as hyped about cleaning out Morgan's room which I wanted to get done today. I feel like a truck ran over me, backed up, then ran over me again.
*Excited to make some caramel corn tonight after my family has been asking for it for the last three days. Let's hope that idea still sounds good later this evening.
*I'm in disbelief that Halloween is fast approaching. We bought pumpkins Monday night and the kids costumes are ready to go, but I'm dreading buying the Halloween candy.

In the morning
It's 7:03 am
I wake up and I feel soooo tired still.
I toss and turn all night. Not being able to sleep is SO frustrating.
Why can I fall sound asleep on the couch, but not in bed?
I'm hot, my family is cold.
I'm uncomfortable.
I have another doctor's appointment to go to this morning.
I want to come home and sleep but I know I won't/can't/will find other things to do.
My brain is foggy, it's hard to think fast.
I feel like I'm moving in slow motion.
Now I'm off to slowly help Kendle get ready.
Just trying to keep my eyes open.......

Goodnight
It's 9:04 pm
Checking email
One child in bed
Sandwiches made for the week
Kitchen cleaned
Football STILL on TV
Second child playing quietly
I'm fading fast
Swollen sore feet
Tired eyes
Feeling the heaviness of babies
Basket of laundry haunting me
Needing bigger pj's
Still tasting garlic from dinner
Mind zig zagging around
Trying to remember everything
Hoping for no heartburn
Hearing the steady hum of the dryer
Too tired for ice cream
Heading to bed and hoping for a good tomorrow.............

What's on my mind today....
*Morgan is turning into such a big boy. And he is ALL boy - playing in the dirt, throwing rocks, getting into trouble, sneaking snacks.....he would live outside if I let him. The other day we had let our dog out to run around and I didn't see Morgan for a while. I go around the side of the house to the kennel and he's inside there with his arms in Bogie's water bucket up to his elbows just splashing away. I was so grossed out. He doesn't go anywhere without his hat and recently Riley gave him an old pair of his sunglasses to wear around but instead of wearing them, he puts them on top of his hat (just like his dad). My favorite thing he says right now is when I tell him that I love him, he'll reply "t00", as in "love you too". It is the most adorable thing ever. He still blows me kisses when he leaves, I hope he keeps that up for a while.
*I have to go get my blood drawn today. It is one of my least favorite things to do and I always have to warn them that I get queasy and could pass out on them. It really has nothing to do with getting grossed out, I can watch other people get stitches, shots, and all other nasty things. The blood leaving my body for some reason actually makes me feel sick. When I was a senior in high school I gave blood to get extra credit in some class and ended up passing out and having convulsions. I barely made the weight requirement so I think that had something to do with it, but it was not a fun experience. When I was pregnant with Kendle and they were taking my blood I almost passed out and had to lay down for a while. I always keep candies or something to drink with me now when I go.
*We made our "Summer Fun List" last night and we brainstormed all sorts of fun things we want to do this summer. A few things from our list:
-Go mini golfing
-Make home made ice cream
-Have a back yard camp out
-Go to the zoo
-Go to the aquatic center (I vow to do this more than once this year since the kids love it)
-Do arts and crafts
-Lay out and watch for falling stars
*Kendle is so ready for school to be out. I have to drag her out of bed in the morning and she is pretty grumpy. I think every kid gets this way by the end of May. It is really a waste to go two more weeks into the month of June when nobody wants to be there. The kids brains are already gonzo and ready for summer break. Bed time starts getting really hard when it's still light outside too. Our bodies are just programmed to want to stay up later in the summer months I think.
*I finally got some tomatoes and other things planted over the weekend with Riley's help. I look forward to watching the plants grow over the summer. Since I don't have space for a traditional garden, I just planted them in my rock border along our back fence. It is a good spot that gets lots of sun. Hopefully they grow, because nothing is better than a warm sun ripened tomato picked fresh.
*I'm 12 weeks along now and starting to feel a little better each day. It makes such a difference to be able to eat good normal food again. The difference in this pregnancy than the other two besides being more sick, is that my stomach growls all of the time. If I don't eat on a regular schedule and have snacks in between I start to feel really sick. This baby wants food and it wants it NOW. It's like on "Little Shop of Horrors" when the plant is yelling "feed me Seymour, feed me!"
Little Blurbs
*Last night we went to the boys soccer game at Lampson. The weather was perfect for a game, just a tiny breeze and very comfortable. Southridge beat Eastmont (first time in school history) so they are in third place and having a great season so far. It's fun to see the growth and improvement of the boys on the team. They have two more games this week and we are hoping for wins. Chip, Riley, and Johnny put a lot of effort into working with the boys on their teams and spending lots of extra time strategizing and scouting their competition (much to the dismay of us wives most of the time), but it pays off.
*Morgan's new favorite toy is the "Abb Roller" he keeps pulling out of our closet. The scary thing is he can actually do it - and it is hard to do. He's going to be my little muscle man. He has a good little imagination and will play all day by himself for the most part.
*Between Kendle waking me up twice last night because she had scary dreams, and Riley's phone buzzing his alarm twenty times, I didn't get much sleep. I debated on going back to bed after Kendle left for the bus this morning, but didn't. I always feel like a bum when I go back to bed, but I sure was tempted today.
*I saw Dr. Laura on Hannity last night and want to read her new book "In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms". I love her no-nonsense approach to life.
*I bought a football shaped cake pan on sale the other day thinking it would be cute for Morgan's birthday in a few months. Now I'm thinking I might be able to use it to make an egg shaped cake like this one. Not sure I want to break up the tradition of my bunny cake though.
*I'm not ready for Easter and the busy weekend that is approaching. Literally everything that could possibly be planned for a Saturday has been planned. I'm not looking forward to all of the candy that will be around to tempt me. Cadburry Mini Eggs are a must though.
Ok, I have to go drag myself onto the dreaded, beastly treadmill now.

Sabotage
A big old monkey wrench was thrown my way last night.
I've been working out all week, eating good, feeling good, sleeping good, etc.....
Then my well intentioned husband decides to bring me home some of this to eat while we watched some movies:

Oh
My
Goodness!!!!!
Thanks for the sabotage Riley, he knows me too well.
This ice cream has almost everything I love in it. It's chocolate and vanilla ice creams mixed with fudge brownies and gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough. Pretty much heaven in a small carton to me.
I managed to only eat a few (heaping) spoonfuls and then stashed the rest back in the freezer. I swore after I went to bed last night that I would throw the rest away first thing in the morning. But, I couldn't bring myself to do it. And as I type this, I am eating a few more spoonfuls and promising myself that I will stay on the treadmill for an extra long time tomorrow and in the future, stay very, very far away from this ice cream.

Wednesday
Urban dictionary gives these definitions for hump day:
"The middle of a work week (Wednesday); used in the context of climbing a proverbial hill to get through a tough week. The absolute BEST day of the week, the day of maximum hope that maybe, you might make it out of this week alive. It is called hump day because it is often referred as the ''hump'' of the week because it's two more days til Friday"
*I just worked out
*I'm exhausted
*My house is a wreck
*I don't feel like cleaning it
*I'm starving
*I'm on a quasi-diet and I'm craving all the stuff I shouldn't eat
*I need to go grocery shopping
*Grocery shopping is the last thing I want to do
*Want to go take a nap and have the house clean itself and dinner magically appear tonight
*I have a new 8 pound nephew named Dalton
*Woke up yesterday with a really bad kink in my neck that won't go away
*Kendle has a play date after school (yay!)
*Morgan is singing along to the Spongebob theme song and smashing crackers into the carpet
*Really looking forward to next weekend away!

Morning Ramble
It's the start of another week and I woke up with a scratchy sore throat and a runny nose. I could feel it coming on last night after we got home from church. The first thing that always tips me off that I'm coming down with something is that my eyes start to feel funny. They get kind of sore and feel kind of like they're burning. Does that happen to anyone else? Then my throat starts to feel itchy. Those are the two big signs for me to start downing some vitamin C and drink lots of water. I was so stuffed up this morning that I got up really early, wrapped myself in a blanket, and laid on the couch watching old re-runs on TV until Kendle woke up. Now Morgan is about ready to wake up, and I'm ready to go back to bed. But despite feeling less than great, I must press on (totally lacking enthusiasm and drenched in sarcasm). I have much that I need to get done this week before Riley's surgery on Friday. I wish I had a washing machine that could wash five loads at a time. I'm the only one in my family that wears one outfit a day and my threats of throwing clothes away have fallen on deaf ears. The laundry piles just grow and grow, I'm afraid one day they are going to come to life and take over our house. And on days like today, I would gladly hang the white flag of surrender and go take a nap.

Random Thoughts...
-I gave my blog a new face lift, I was getting restless.
-There was a pretty big fire in our neighborhood yesterday. A family farther down the street from us had a car catch on fire in their driveway, probably about 2 minutes after Kendle walked past their house on the way to the bus stop. I'm beyond thankful no one was hurt. Blessings are all around us on a daily basis if we stop to look.
-My favorite thing about getting Morgan out of his crib in the morning is that he will let me hug and hold him for a few minutes. This morning he was so sweet and just snuggled into me with a big smile. I love that he wakes up happy. It makes my day start off so much better.
-I was actually cold this morning. Brrr.....the chilly mornings are upon us. My feet are cold, which they will be until April probably. Is there such a thing as cold feet syndrome?
-The constant home construction behind our house is driving me nuts. The soundtrack to my day is loud trucks, beeping, hammering, yelling, loud music, and sometimes I can even feel the ground vibrate from the backhoes digging. I long for the quiet of the country.......

Hype

I usually don't discuss politics on my blog, I'll leave that to this guy, but I've been bothered by a lot of what I've been hearing and reading in the news lately.
There has been a lot of speculation as to if John McCain will decide on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as VP. The announcement should be coming any day now following the Democratic Convention.
With all the media coverage about the Presidential elections and the candidates choices for their Vice Presidential running mates I have to ask you, normal everyday people of America, does the person selected to run as vice president influence your voting decision or are you purely voting for who will make the best president of our country?
And as parents, what issues are most important to you in this election? What would you like to see changed on a country/state/city level?
